School District 6October 3, 2017

Dear Members of the School District Six Community:

As a follow-up to my previous communications, I wanted to provide you with an update on where we stand with our investigation and the security of our systems.

Since we first announced that we had experienced a cyber security incident, we have continued to aggressively investigate the attack, work closely with law enforcement, and have taken various steps to enhance existing network security measures.

While our investigation continues, please understand that this incident does not pose a physical threat to our school community. Additionally, although no computer system is ever 100% secure from attacks, you can feel confident that we have taken additional measures to protect your information moving forward.

At our community meetings, I waived our district attendance policy, stating, “your child’s attendance will not jeopardize their grades until further notice”. On Monday, October 2, I am reinstating our normal district policy. For parents who remain concerned, we will work with you in any way to address and eliminate your concerns.

Again, we value the trust you place in us to protect the privacy and security of your family’s personal information, and will continue to provide updates as additional information is confirmed.
